Wednesday Night social club

We spent pretty much all summer trying to come up with a name for our Wednesday night group ride. Even the Wednesday Night Social Club is just a stand in. We had lots of ideas, but they were all thwarted by unnecessarily high standards. We wanted something clever, but not too on the nose. Something descriptive, but not confining. We’ll have one by the time the rides start up again in the spring. Well, maybe.
Despite the namelessness, these weekly bike rides were the start of a wonderful summer tradition, something akin to a weekly softball league. Never the same crew twice, we rode at the pace of whoever showed up. Eighteen miles with a beer or two at the halfway point, mostly on a wonderful stretch of bike trail (shoutout to New York for investing in bike trails). Somehow, it was always sunny—ok, except for that one time. Any experience level, any body, any bike.
As we descend into darkness toward winter, we’re wrapping up the rides for this year — we’ve been racing the sunset for the last few weeks. But consider this your open invitation to join us next summer. Hopefully by then we’ll have a name. If not, we’ll still go riding.
